Vietnamese kids sing their way across US

The Vietnam National Opera and Ballet Theatre’s Vietnam Children Choir left for the United States on Wednesday in the first exchange of its kind between the two countries.

During the two-week tour, the 34-member choir, aged eight to 16, will give four performances in Utah, Idaho and California.

The group plans to showcase Vietnamese and American folk songs and dances, including music using bamboo instruments.

They will perform as honorary guests at the Tabernacle Grand Choir Show in Salt Lake City.

The young artists will stay with American families during their tour to learn more about the US.

The visit is sponsored by conductor Daniel Perkins from Plymouth University’s Music Faculty and Operation Smile doctors John and Marjorie Tall.

The tour will be good practice for the youths who are participating in the Asian Choir Games in Jakarta this November as well as the World Choir Games in Austria next August.
