Hanoi is set for a musical free-for-all Thursday at the annual World Music Day organized by the French government.
The Fête de la Musique is a free popular fête, open to any participant (amateur or professional musicians) who wants to perform.
It allows the expression of all styles of music and works to popularize musical practices for people from all backgrounds.
The event will open in the Vietnamese capital this year with a party of music at the French Cultural Center.
Composer Quoc Trung has been invited by the center to be the art director for the program.
The Cam Xuc (Emotion) band will join the party with flamenco dance performances while the Song Hong (Red River) band will perform jazz music.
It will conclude with a show by French DJ Jean-Yves Le Garzic.
The center’s library will play CDs of music from many French-speaking countries.
Launched in 1982 by the Ministry of Culture, the Fête de la Musique is now held in more than 100 countries all over the world. It takes place on 21st June, the day of the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere.
Last year’s event in Hanoi featured jazz shows by a French trio, The three of us, and a performance by Bojan Z, a leading jazz pianist.
